Dezful and Kashan have been registered as World Heritage sites

Dezful has been registered as the "World City of Palm Weaving" and Kashan as the "World City of Traditional Textiles" by the World Crafts Council. Ezzatollah Zarghami, the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, announced the news on his social media account, stating, "The World Crafts Council has registered the cities of Dasht-e Kavir and Kashan as the World City of Palm Weaving and the World City of Traditional Textiles, respectively. The meticulous inspections by the evaluators, completion of documentation, field surveys, and other factors have contributed to this auspicious event."

Zarghami emphasized that the international registration of Kashan is not just a score but also a responsibility. He added, "Becoming a World Heritage site means increased responsibility to strengthen development strategies, expand workshops, promote education, create employment opportunities, and internationalize and sustain this foundation."

In conclusion, Zarghami wrote, "Palm weaving is the art of weaving from palm tree waste, creating beautiful, durable, and practical products without the need for exorbitant costs or foreign currency for raw materials! Handicrafts are a vital pillar of cultural economy and must compensate for past neglect."
